29th December 2010 was a sad day for us as we had to say goodbye to our beautiful Zizi. Her butterfly has come to let us know she's with the others at the Rainbow Bridge. There are now four butterflies on Sweep's casket. Sweep was her brother.

These photos were taken just over a week before she was put to sleep -

Zizi on holiday, Irish (Munster) Circuit, August 2008.

Zizi has now retired from the show ring but she comes on holiday with us when we go to Ireland and she still doesn't like getting her feet wet!

Zizi was born on April 26th. 2001.  We kept three from that litter; one dog – Sweep, and two bitches, Zizi and Mole.  Their mum, Rynchanon Delta Lady (Slinky) had primary inertia and needed a caesarean section to deliver eleven babies; ten of which survived; seven bitches and three dogs.

Steve was working that day, so I went to the vet’s on my own but he was home by the time I got back with mum and pups.

At the time I had a Toyota Townace with a sliding side door and the back caged for carrying the hounds. Slinky was in the cage and the pups were snuggled up in a washing basket, covered with a thick towel for the journey home.

I slid the side door open to fetch the basket of pups out, Steve having fetched a very dozey Slinky safely out of the back door. Walking towards the house I thought I heard a puppy cry and the sound wasn’t coming from the basket, so I retraced my steps to the van and there was a puppy, on the ground, right beneath the side door.  I quickly picked the poor little mite up and checked it all over to see if it was alright.

It was a bitch and she had three tiny scuff marks on the top of her head but the skin wasn’t broken and she seemed otherwise OK; thank goodness. She must have climbed out of the basket on the way home, dropped onto the stairwell by the sliding door and fallen onto the floor when I opened the door. I shudder when I think what could have happened but happily (for once) it didn’t and that bitch grew up to be my beautiful superstar – Zizi.

Steve (very unkindly) calls her 40 watts because (he says) she’s dim.  He blames it on me for dropping her on her head when she was a pup. I don’t care what he says, she’s fabulous and I love her to pieces.

She didn’t begin her show career until she was two years old but has rarely been out of the cards since. She won her first CC in 2004, at Border Union Championship Show, under Ellis Hulme; her second in 2005 at The Hound Association Ch Show, under Kathy Johnson, and her all important third in 2007, at Richmond Ch Show, under Robin Searle. She picked up 6 Reserve CC’s along the way and there were times when I didn’t think she’d ever get her title. I think everyone breathed a sigh of relief when she was handed the ticket at Richmond!

She also has six Green Stars, from showing in Ireland, (one short of her Irish title), four reserve Green Stars, and two CACIB’s, (halfway to her International Title).

Zizi has now retired from showing.
