Tuesday 3rd February 2009.
After heavy snow on Monday night we were cut off by snowdrifts. Still, every cloud as they say - the dogs loved it.
Wednesday morning; Raven, Ben and Alfie have great fun playing in the snow -
Sunday 19th October. Newtown & District Open Show. Raven followed in his father's (Alfie) footsteps by winning Best Puppy In Show. This also qualifies him for The Welsh Kennel Club Top Puppy Of The Year Competition 2009. In 2004, Alfie won Best In Show and Best Puppy In Show, at this same show, at the same age!

Saturday 2nd. August was The Houndshow at the County Showground, Stafford. Raven had been practising and he behaved very (quite) well - for a change! He managed a first place, (only narrowly beating his half-brother Vader, who was at his very first show) and then had to challenge the winner of puppy bitch for Best Puppy In Breed.

Here we go -
Raven in the challenge for Best Puppy in
Breed.
Below, two of Raven's sisters, Daisy and Nell, and his half-sister Niamh, (Vader's sister), waiting to be seen in the Puppy Bitch Class. Daisy was 2nd, Niamh 3rd, and Nell 4th.
Nell left; Daisy centre; Niamh right.
Alfie is very proud of all of his children!

Saturday 21st. June was Blackpool Championship Show and the second time in the ring for Raven. Can't say he was particularly well-behaved, (our fault, not his - lack of training); definitely more practice required. He got a first but the judge said 'he was a bit wild'!
Raven's grandad Indi, with Fran, winning Limit Dog (also Reserve DCC)
Raven's mum Rainbow, with Steve, winning Limit Bitch (also Reserve BCC)
Us; freezing; waiting for Alfie to compete in the Hound Group

Sunday 15th. June saw Raven at his very first show, aged six months and three days old. The show was Border Union Championship Show in Scotland; quite fitting, as of course he was born in Scotland.
He enjoyed a few days holiday while he was there; as did we all; including his breeders, Fran Smith-King and Bill Barnbrook, who joined us on the camp-site from Friday till after the show on Sunday. A great time was had by all and Fran took loads of photos as usual, many of which are included on this site, with her permission. We took a camera but the batteries were flat - typical!
Three of Raven's sisters came to compete at the show, including Ebony Moon; (Fran & Bill's). His half-sister, Niamh, (Alfie x Molly) came along to see what it was all about. She will be making her debut in the ring in August, on the Munster Circuit in Ireland, along with Keira, her sister, who now lives in Ireland with Paula and John Cozens.
Show day. All the puppies were brilliant in the ring; happy and outgoing and not in the least bit phased by it all; a real credit to their owners. Raven won a first in his class and the three girls won second, third and fourth in their class. Raven had to compete against the bitch puppy winner for Best Puppy In Breed. The judge gave him a good hard look and for a while it seemed as if he was going to win. He moved beautifully up the ring but when he turned to come down the other side of the ring, Steve let the lead slip down his neck and he took off like a bucking bronco! The judge gave it to the puppy bitch who behaved impeccably. Oh well, Raven enjoyed himself and that's the main thing - better luck (and better behaviour hopefully) next time.
What a lovely day we all had. Border Union is one of those shows that makes all the travelling and preparation worthwhile. Well done the Border Union show-team and committee.
With dad Alfie to say hello to sisters Ebony and Niamh
Niamh trying to find a cool spot before the show and Raven wears the curtains!
Sharing a sausage roll with dad. All of us smiling for the camera.
Show time! First place.
Raven's sisters/The dog line up for the CC; Ben & Raven at the end, (Junior & Puppy).

This is Raven; seventeen weeks old. Isn't he a cracker? This picture was taken in the garden. His stripes are courtesy of the sunlight shining through the fence. Fran of course is claiming the credit for breeding the first tartan Wolfhound in Scotland!
Raven the hunter/gatherer -
Raven has just got back from his first holiday in Ireland - he had the greatest time. We had to watch him though as he would happily go off with anyone and Steve had to fetch him out of nearby caravans on more than one occasion. The owners thought he was adorable and didn't mind his visits in the least - it would be very easy to lose him!
